The latest release 10.1 for the Virtual Datacenter Management Console VMware Cloud Director was rolled out last Monday. You’re right, it’s no longer called vCloud Director but only Cloud Director. Besides the name change there are some other awesome changes, especially in the user interface. You can look forward for the following:
The flash interface was definitely switched off and can no longer be activated. The HTML5 interface has been extended with all missing functions and is now the central hub for the management of your Virtual Datacenter environment.
The hamburger menu has been replaced by a horizontal menu that allows faster access to all important functions.
The settings of the vApps and VMs are shown clearer and were partially rearranged.
Use badges to mark VMs and vApps with different colors for organizational purposes. This is useful for differentiating between test and production systems, different services, service levels or other factors. You can filter your systems according to badge color.
Multi-select allows you to start, shutdown, take snapshots or update VMware Tools for multiple VMs or vApps simultaneously.
Filter your vApps and VMs with a few clicks according to various criteria and find the objects you are looking for quickly.
You can disconnect and reconnect existing OrgVDC networks from the Edge Gateway. Until now the whole network had to be deleted and recreated for this purpose.
Many minor optimizations of the GUI have been made, for example wizards have been structured more logically or the arrangement of individual elements has been made clearer.
