ServerBase tames Windows environments in the cloud

While automation has been established in the Linux environment for a long time, ServerBase ventured into completely automated provisioning and management of Windows environments in its own cloud one and a half years ago. Automation solutions already existed in the enterprise environment, but they are expensive and very complex. Why shouldn’t an IT service provider be able to conveniently manage its SME customers from anywhere via tablet? A simple solution for the Swiss SME market did not yet exist!

ServerBase took up the challenge and designed a solution at the whiteboard in early 2020 for completely automated provisioning of ready-configured Windows environments. IT service providers should be able to set up and operate the IT environment for their SME customers in ServerBase’s Swiss cloud with just a few clicks via a web interface. What looks simple is very complex in the background. An interdisciplinary team was needed that combined know-how on VMware, Windows Server, PowerShell, Windows development and web development in one platform. Thanks to good contacts, the team was quickly completed and development began. 

In the months that followed, countless coffees and beads of sweat were turned into architecture designs and code, so that in early September 2021 we can finally announce the release of our revolutionary platform awesome.cloud! A platform that solves several current problems faced by IT service providers:

• Reduced cost pressure on small installations by automating deployment
• Reduced skilled labor shortage as even an apprentice trainee can easily set up, migrate and operate a customer environment
• Standardization of operational processes, as the platform automatically performs all configurations according to the same scheme every time
• Simplified billing to end customers, as end-customer prices can be stored and clearly broken down monthly in a billing report

awesome.cloud allows to provide Active Directory and file sharing services at the push of a button, to manage users and permissions, to set up virtual desktops with Remote Desktop Services including gateway and to install and if necessary license applications via the integrated app store. All servers required for this are automatically provisioned in the background and configured up to the highest level. Additional servers for business applications are put into operation just as easily. A fully functional customer environment can be deployed in less than 10 clicks and completely web-based.
