It has probably been heard almost everywhere – the ICT industry has grown at an above-average rate in recent years – in 2017 and 2018 even stronger than the Swiss economy as a whole. The forecasts of the magazine Netzwoche for this year are also good, and we are optimistic about the coming numbers, even if spending by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will decline slightly. The ongoing digitization and the trend to outsource ICT services are contributing to the good figures. Not to forget is the popular cloud location Switzerland.

Shift away from ICT in-house operations to managed services and cloud computing

For many SMEs, having their own ICT operation is almost impossible. Technology is becoming more complex, availability and security expectations are rising, and regulatory requirements are driving up costs. Collaboration with a location-based managed service provider seems obvious, as it already meets most of the business and legal requirements at a manageable cost. Risks of failures and security gaps are thus reduced in a targeted manner.

Security perspective

The outsourcing of IT used to be of little use. Companies were afraid for their data, employees could administer the manageable IT environment with little training expenditure and in general there were not many providers in this area. Today the situation has changed. If you are looking for the highest data security and the best technologies, you are looking for a suitable partner with complete solutions and relatively low prices, which will perform well.

ServerBase has a strong focus on security and offers its customers new security measures in 2019 such as

  • an improved logging of network activities,
  • the creation of blacklists with access to systems from dubious sources,
  • commissioning of a second data center in Lupfig AG, which further optimizes the availability of currently 99.9%.

The ServerBase Cloud meets important security, compliance and operational requirements such as ISO 27001 certification and FINMA compliance. For small and medium businesses, these certifications are costly and time-consuming, in short, not worthwhile.

Location perspective

The legal framework for cloud computing has a considerable influence on the market development and the companies themselves. An established legal system is a significant location policy advantage, which Switzerland also uses optimally with its presentable legislation and the Swiss jurisdiction. ServerBase is optimally positioned with the location Switzerland and a manageable size of company to cover the needs of many SMEs. Fast reaction times, short decision-making processes and proximity to the customer are among our key quality features. Because the quick repair of a fault is an absolute success factor for customers of all sizes.

Conclusion

The figures and forecasts show a clear trend towards cloud computing. It is worthwhile to first look for a suitable supplier in the Swiss market, which can score with customer proximity, fast reaction times and pragmatic solution approaches. And usually not even at higher costs than the international competition.
